Counter Trafficking – Regional SIDA Project Status of the project: Ongoing Since May 2001 Swedish International
Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has funded direct assistance
projects for victims of trafficking, in particular women and children
stranded in the Balkan countries. This project will continue to
facilitate direct assistance to victims of trafficking in and from the
region. Trafficking in Persons: Prevention and Protection in Bosnia and Herzegovina Status of the project: Ongoing Since 1999, IOM’s counter-trafficking programme
in BiH promotes the prevention of trafficking by raising media and
public awareness of the issue, provides protection to trafficked human
beings through a network of shelters and provides training and
assistance to local NGOs to manage the shelters and builds the capacity
of the Government and local NGOs to manage counter-trafficking
activities and facilitate the prosecution of traffickers. Measures to Support Transnational Cooperation to Prevent and Combat Trafficking and Irregular Migration: Enhancement of National Capacities in Counteracting Trafficking in 8 IOM Missions in the Eastern European and South Eastern Mediterranean Regions (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cyprus, AP Kosovo and Metohja, FYROM, Turkey and Ukraine) Status of the project: Ongoing Since the early nineties, the Italian
Government has enforced prosecution and implemented victim’s assistance
policies together with local associations and NGOs. According to the US
Department of State TIP (Trafficking In Persons) report, Italy is
identified as being among the most active countries in the field of
counter-trafficking and is gaining international recognition for its
policies and practices. Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings in the Western Balkans through educational activities and capacity building of schools - Regional Trafficking in Schools Programme (Albania) Status of the project: Closed IOM implements the Prevention of Trafficking in
Human Beings in the Western Balkans through Educational Activities and
Capacity Building of Schools by working with the BiH State Coordinator
for Counter-Trafficking and Illegal Immigration, BiH Ministries of
Education and local NGOs. The project targets BiH Educators in
Ministries and schools, potential victims of trafficking as well as the
